September 12, 2018 Call Notes

Objective of this call: HHS to hear the challenges and concerns the public and private sectors are anticipating/managing
  • Weather updates 
    • Hurricane Florence (Atlantic, approx. 500 miles from NC/SC): Cat 4 
    • Tropical Storm Isaac: not a hurricane on path to brush USVI & PR who both have disrupted infrastructure 
    • Hurricane Olivia (Pacific, approx. 500 miles from HI): Cat 1 
    • A few other storms brewing in the Atlantic – should be aware there may be activity in the Gulf in coming days 
  • ASPR updates 
    • Public health emergencies declared in NC & SC 
    • In contact with Superfund and nuclear sites in to-be affected areas and monitoring concerns 
  • Public health association updates of interest 
    • NACCHO & ASTHO 
      • Both have their ICS structures/EOCs activated 
      • Anticipate supporting members in coming days 
      • In contact/has reached out to members in jurisdictions affected (should we do this/have we already done this?) 
    • CSTE 
      • Has received requests from members (NC) for disaster epidemiology tools/resources regarding disaster-related injuries 
      • Will continue to support members in coming days 
  • Most concerns discussed involved the damaged infrastructure: 
    • Gas availability (heads up: there is a pretty cool website called GasBuddy that can tell you where to get gas, if a gas station is open, how much the gas costs, etc.) 
    • Pharmaceuticals & medical materials 
    • Blood (already have shortages before hit) 
  • Calls will continue moving forward as needed
