Optional Webinar: Accessing Grey Literature for Epidemiologists

Please join the Council of State and Territorial Epidemiologists (CSTE) on Thursday April 2, 2020 at 1:00 pm EDT for a webinar entitled “Accessing Grey Literature for Epidemiologists,” hosted by the CSTE Epi Methods Subcommittee.  
 
 In a fast-paced world, we have seen the value and challenges presented when seeking resources to support evidence-based public health practices. When evidence is lacking, grey literature is consulted. This presentation will provide an overview on identifying and strategizing your searches for grey literature. Two topics in public health epidemiology will be used as examples to demonstrate relevant searches for traditional both and non-traditional resources.

 By the end of the presentation, participants will be able to:  
1. Define grey literature and list three traditional examples 

            a. Identify an example of a non-traditional source for grey literature
2. Identify resources to search for grey literature
3. Describe how grey literature informs epidemiologists information needs

Cecilia Vernes, MS-LIS, is the Education Coordinator for the National Network of Libraries of Medicine (NNLM) Public Health Coordination Office (NPHCO) based at the University of Massachusetts Medical School in Worcester, Massachusetts. Over the past three years, she has created a curriculum of online and in-person courses and content for all the 28 Public Health Digital Library program members. Her previous experience includes working in healthcare informatics, as a library liaison for the surgical video journal JoMI and a previous career in financial services IT. She has a Bachelor of Arts in French from Mount Holyoke College and a Master’s in Library and Information Science from Drexel University.
