Navy is least trusted as responsible party etc but such a devastating event for so many and many haven't felt they have gotten the support from any governmental entity (including DOH). We've tried hard to address this and improve trust but once lost is hard to regain. 16:03:44 From Maureen Wimsatt to Andrew Adams(Direct Message) : let's save the SLido for the end after FEMA or first thing tomorrow as we start? I have a feeling that this is gonna be cutting it close. 16:04:08 From Svetlana Smorodinsky : Replying to "@svetlana smorodinsk..." Thanks, Diana. Tough situation. But worst case is let's start w it tomorrow. 16:07:09 From Diana Felton : Replying to "@svetlana smorodinsk..." yes. Some of it is clear "should have done differently" and some is more that this was so terrible for people and we couldn't prevent or solve. Trying to focus on the former to improve in the future. 16:07:12 From Diana Felton : @laura Conklin - exposure is the major missing piece of this. No samples were taken early enough to quantify the max exposure people had. By the time samples were taken, there had been a fair amount of dilution and the results don't reflect the reports of smells and health impacts. We know people got exposed to higher amounts than the water samples showed but how high is unknown. Also, due to the complexity and age of the water system, the distribution of water from the contaminated source (As opposed to the other water source for the system) is still hard to model. Groups are trying to model what the highest or likely average might have been but the missing information makes this very difficult. I don't think we will ever have a clear understanding of what an individual's exposure might have bene. This complicates conclusions on health effects and long term health monitoring. 16:09:26 From Diana Felton : Replying to "it seems all of acti..." Extensive sampling of the groundwater had been occurring for years and there was a pretty clear understanding of the contamination right around the facility but there were not significant plans in place for preparation for acute contamination of the drinking water source. 16:09:43 From Svetlana Smorodinsky : Replying to "@laura Conklin - exp..." @Diana - this might be a great project for an academic partner, no? 16:10:00 From Diana Felton : Replying to "@laura Conklin - exp..."
