By the way, we've validated other more complicated definitions and haven't found them to be significantly more sensitive. So even though we suspect we're probably missing some true cases we have stuck with this same definition over time.

Hi, I've tried more complicated queries and not found significant difference from using the CC & DD category CDC Opioid Overdose V3. I spoke with the state about what they use, and they use the same query. If you are speaking specifically about opioid overdoses.

Thank you, Molly. The query worked well when I didn’t specify region. However, I am not a power user of ESSENCE and I don’t know how to filter to Benton County. I tried setting Region = “Benton, OR” using the advanced query and it returned 0, which I know is not true. I double checked using Region = “Multnomah, OR” and still got 0. Can you help me with the query that will filter to Benton County? Thanks! Peter

Make sure you click "Select" and it will move the county you pick over to the right hand side.
I use CDC All Drug v2, CDC Opioid Overdose v3, and CDC Heroin Overdose v4 found under "CC and DD Category." You can look up the query text of each in syndrome definitions (found under "More" in the header tabs).
Yes, the metro tri-counties (Mult, Clack, WA) have a regional dashboard on ESSENCE for ODs. We use the following under the CC and DD category:
(,(^;T400^,or,^;T401^,or,^;T402^,or,^;T403^,or,^;T404^, or,^;T406^,),andnot,(,T402X6,or,T400X6,or,T40606,or, T40696,)
