Descriptive Webinar Title: New and Emerging Informatics Applications
 
Overview: Evaluation of past and current public health events informs our approach to future crises, allowing for a more responsive public health informatics infrastructure and more effective tools. In this session we will focus on current topics in public health and the ongoing informatics development approaches to those crises. Use Cases: Drug overdose and opioid surveillance, emergency preparedness, and outbreak response.
 
Learning Objectives: At the end of this webinar the participants will be able to: 

1.      describe novel informatics approaches to improving public health surveillance
2.      propose informatics approaches to opioid crisis response applying basic knowledge of informatics project management and SDLC

a.      Please spend some time in your team gathering information on how client/patient identity is managed across your organization’s systems. Do you have a master patient index? How are record duplications managed? Are your organization’s systems tied in to any external systems that trade patient identity information?  Please document your group’s responses and be prepared to share them during the webinar when prompted.
