AZ BioSense Community of Practice

The mission of the Arizona BioSense Workgroup is to work collaboratively as partners to build capacity and quality of BioSense syndromic surveillance in Arizona. Our vision is to improve population health and emergency response through the use of timely and effective syndromic surveillance. This space is a platform for our members to continue discussions and share cross-role topics and questions from providing the data to using syndromic data (clinician/IT/public health).

BioSense Platform Data Flow Videos

The National Syndromic Surveillance Program (NSSP) conducted a three-part webinar series to describe how data flows to the BioSense Platform. This comprehensive series explores how data are ingested into the BioSense Platform and ESSENCE application and how BioSense 2.0 data are being migrated.

Part 1: Data Ingestion into the BioSense Platform will describe the overall data flow and data structures for the BioSense Platform. The webinar will present the rationale behind the proposed data elements and processing requirements for the new data archive.

Part 2: The second webinar in the BioSense Platform Data Flow series will include a recap of suggested changes to the Archive data flow process that we originally covered in part 1 of the webinar series. In addition, we will cover data ingestion into the ESSENCE application, basic ESSENCE processing, and ESSENCE settings to consider. The webinar will cover how the BioSense Platform Archive will push data into the ESSENCE application and how those data may appear on the front-end web application component of ESSENCE.

Part 3: The third webinar in the BioSense Platform Data Flow series will describe the process to migrate BioSense 2.0 data into the BioSense Platform.  We will also provide a recap of the ESSENCE settings and Administration Tool functionality that have been adjusted per volunteer feedback.  Finally, we will describe what sites can expect during the next few months, including our transition plan to set up the new data flow and convert legacy data.
