AZ BioSense Community of Practice

The mission of the Arizona BioSense Workgroup is to work collaboratively as partners to build capacity and quality of BioSense syndromic surveillance in Arizona. Our vision is to improve population health and emergency response through the use of timely and effective syndromic surveillance. This space is a platform for our members to continue discussions and share cross-role topics and questions from providing the data to using syndromic data (clinician/IT/public health).

  • Update to COVID related CCDD categories with new ICD10CM code for Pneumonia due to coronavirus 2019 (J12.82)
  • Provided demo and instructions for: 
    • using the CDC VAE v1 plus COVID-19 vaccines free text terms to look at trends and individual patient visits for vaccine adverse events.
    • looking at Cold-related Illness v1 and Minimum Temperatures
  • Asked about need for timely alerts for ESSENCE VAE Email Alerts and possible linkage to immunization registry data
