AZ BioSense Community of Practice

The mission of the Arizona BioSense Workgroup is to work collaboratively as partners to build capacity and quality of BioSense syndromic surveillance in Arizona. Our vision is to improve population health and emergency response through the use of timely and effective syndromic surveillance. This space is a platform for our members to continue discussions and share cross-role topics and questions from providing the data to using syndromic data (clinician/IT/public health).

Introduction to R for Health Surveillance Webinar

Description: In this 26 minute video, Eric Bakota offers an overview of a free statistical package, R, and an overview of commonly used tips and tricks shared in the surveillance community for analysis work in R.

Objectives:
  • Overview of R and R Studio
  • Introduction to the ‘Tidyverse’ concept (system of packages for data manipulation, exploration and visualization)
  • Overview of dplyr (a package which provides a set of tools for efficiently manipulating datasets in R)
  • Explanation of the ISDS R Group for BioSurveillance and an invitation to join
