AZ BioSense Community of Practice

The mission of the Arizona BioSense Workgroup is to work collaboratively as partners to build capacity and quality of BioSense syndromic surveillance in Arizona. Our vision is to improve population health and emergency response through the use of timely and effective syndromic surveillance. This space is a platform for our members to continue discussions and share cross-role topics and questions from providing the data to using syndromic data (clinician/IT/public health).

2022 Syndromic Surveillance Symposium Call for Abstracts and Volunteers

CSTE is excited to begin planning for another exemplary Syndromic Surveillance Symposium! There are multiple ways to get involved in this year’s Symposium – see details and important deadlines below.
 
SAVE THE DATE – DECEMBER 6-8, 2022
  • Save the Date, December 6-8, 2022: The 3rd Annual Syndromic Surveillance Symposium is scheduled to be held virtually December 6-8, 2022. Please save the date! More information about registration for the symposium will be shared later this fall.
 
CALL FOR ABSTRACTS NOW OPEN – SUBMIT YOUR ABSTRACT BY 9/16
  • Call for Abstracts Now Open! Syndromic practitioners, epidemiologists, public health colleagues are invited to share their work, best practices, and lessons learned via submitted abstracts.
    • Submit an abstract by Friday, September 16th: 2022 Syndromic Surveillance Symposium Abstract Submission Form
    • Your roundtable, breakout, or training abstract will be submitted to one of these categories: Data Quality, Data Sharing, Methods and Application, Syndrome Definitions, Using Data for Public Health Action (consider submitting in-progress or recent success stories here), or “Other”
      • Review the attached document to learn more about the abstract requirements and submission topics for the 2022 Symposium.
 
2022 SYNDROMIC SURVEILLANCE SYMPOSIUM VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES – VOLUNTEER BY 8/26
  • Please complete this brief form by Friday, August 26th to indicate your interest in participating in the planning process as an abstract reviewer, planning committee member, and/or session moderator for the 2022 Syndromic Surveillance Symposium: https://cste.co1.qualtrics.com/jfe/form/SV_aV7WR9zDBoOT6su
    • Abstract Reviewers – Volunteers will review and score submitted abstracts based on preferred topic(s), which include data quality, data sharing, methods and application, syndrome definitions, using data for public health action, and ‘other.’ Recognizing NSSP CoP members’ limited bandwidth, no reviewer will be tasked more than 10-15 abstracts (unless requested). CSTE estimates this commitment to translate to less than 3 hours. Abstract review will take place between September 19 - September 30.
    • Planning Committee Members – With the assistance of the 2022 Syndromic Surveillance Symposium Facilitator (TBD), the 2022 Syndromic Surveillance Symposium Planning Committee will review abstracts for acceptance/rejection, session accepted abstracts, identify moderators, and discuss any additional presentations the Planning Committee would like highlighted at the 2022 Syndromic Surveillance Symposium. Planning Committee calls are anticipated to be held between September and late-October. Note: while not required, it is recommended that Planning Committee volunteers also engage in the abstract review process.
    • Session Moderators – Volunteers will moderate sessions of the 2022 Syndromic Surveillance Symposium. Responsibilities include contacting authors of session presentations prior to the conference, introducing each speaker, managing the timing of presentations, and moderating the Q&A session. Please note that session topics have not yet been determined.
