AZ BioSense Community of Practice

The mission of the Arizona BioSense Workgroup is to work collaboratively as partners to build capacity and quality of BioSense syndromic surveillance in Arizona. Our vision is to improve population health and emergency response through the use of timely and effective syndromic surveillance. This space is a platform for our members to continue discussions and share cross-role topics and questions from providing the data to using syndromic data (clinician/IT/public health).

2023 Syndromic Surveillance Symposium

Good afternoon!
CSTE is excited to begin planning for another exemplary Syndromic Surveillance Symposium! Please see details on the event and call for abstracts below. 
 
SAVE THE DATE – DECEMBER 5-7, 2023
  • Save the Date, December 5-7, 2023: The 4th Annual Syndromic Surveillance Symposium is scheduled to be held virtually December 5-7, 2023. Please save the date! More information about registration for the symposium will be shared later this fall. 
 
CALL FOR ABSTRACTS NOW OPEN – SUBMIT YOUR ABSTRACT BY 8/25
  • Call for Abstracts Now Open! Syndromic surveillance practitioners, epidemiologists, informaticists, and public health colleagues are invited to share their work, best practices, and lessons learned via submitted abstracts. 
    • Submit an abstract by Friday, August 25th: 2023 Syndromic Surveillance Symposium Abstract Submission Form
    • Your roundtable, breakout, or training abstract will be submitted to one of these categories: Analytic Tools or Methods, Health Equity, Optimizing Use and Establishing Processes, Partnerships and Collaboration, and Using Data for Public Health Action, or “Other”
      • Review the attached document to learn more about the abstract requirements and submission topics for the 2023 Symposium.

 
As CSTE prepares for the 2023 Syndromic Surveillance Symposium, we need your help to ensure a successful event! There are 2 options to volunteer for the Symposium listed below. If you’re interested in participating in the planning process as an abstract reviewer or planning team member, please complete this brief form by Friday, August 11th.
 
The 4th Annual Syndromic Surveillance Symposium will be held virtually December 5-7, 2023.
 
  • Abstract Reviewers – Volunteers will review and score submitted abstracts based on preferred topic(s), which include Analytic Tools and Methods, Health Equity, Optimizing Use and Establishing Processes, Partnerships and Collaboration, Using Data for Public Health Action, and “Other”. Recognizing NSSP CoP members’ limited bandwidth, no reviewer will be tasked more than 10-15 abstracts (unless requested). CSTE estimates this commitment to translate to less than 3 hours. Abstract review will take place in September.
  • Planning Team Members – With the assistance of Kahuina Consulting, the 2023 Syndromic Surveillance Symposium Planning Team will help shape the event’s content and ensure sessions and activities enhance syndromic surveillance capacity at the state, territorial, local, tribal, and national levels. Team members will participate in two 60-minute meetings in August and September and may be requested to complete a small amount of work (one hour or less per month) outside these meetings. Planning Team Members will also be expected to host at least one session at the 2023 Syndromic Surveillance Symposium.
