AZ BioSense Community of Practice

The mission of the Arizona BioSense Workgroup is to work collaboratively as partners to build capacity and quality of BioSense syndromic surveillance in Arizona. Our vision is to improve population health and emergency response through the use of timely and effective syndromic surveillance. This space is a platform for our members to continue discussions and share cross-role topics and questions from providing the data to using syndromic data (clinician/IT/public health).

Data Delays in ESSENCE - Select Maricopa, Pinal and Mohave County Facilities

Hi Everyone,

We wanted to let you know that a few facilities are experiencing delays getting visits into ESSENCE due to issues with their EHR systems. The facilities are working to get the issues resolved ASAP. These delays could impact your analysis of the data until the issues are resolved and the data are backfilled.  Should you see anything in the data that needs further clarification, please reach out to our team at syndromicsurveillance@azdhs.gov.

Affected Facilities:
  1. All Steward Health Care Facilities - no data since 8/14/2021
    • Maricopa County: Mountain Vista Medical Center and Tempe St Luke's Hospital
    • Pinal County: Florence Hospital
  2. Mohave County: Kingman Regional Medical Center - Hualapai Mountain Campus - missing visits from 7/14/2021 - 8/2/2021.

  1. Steward Health Care is still working with MEDITECH to resolve the issue as it is impacting multiple states at this point. They are testing a potential fix today. We will keep you updated.
  2. Kingman Regional Medical Center is still investigating why Hualapai Mountain Campus visits have dropped from their data stream.

Update

Steward Health Care started sending files again yesterday, 8/24/2021, but are still working through a large backlog. They are hoping to get through the backlog today in order to resume their hourly feed.

The Steward Health Care data feed has returned to hourly transmissions and the back logged data are in ESSENCE! Please email syndromicsurveillance@azdhs.gov if you see anything in the data that needs addressing.
