AZ BioSense Community of Practice

The mission of the Arizona BioSense Workgroup is to work collaboratively as partners to build capacity and quality of BioSense syndromic surveillance in Arizona. Our vision is to improve population health and emergency response through the use of timely and effective syndromic surveillance. This space is a platform for our members to continue discussions and share cross-role topics and questions from providing the data to using syndromic data (clinician/IT/public health).

📢 Monthly Patching Reminder for May

BioSense Platform Monthly Patching Reminder:

  • Vendor patches will be applied to the onboarding and production BioSense Platform environments.
  • These servers will start going offline on Thursday, May 16, 2024, at 12:00 am et.
  • Servers will be restarted several times during the update window.
  • We plan to complete all work on Thursday, May 16, 2024, by 8:00 am et.
  • We will send you a closeout email when activities are complete.
Data Quality (DQ) Dashboard Updates:

Here is a breakdown of the DQ Dashboard enhancements:

  • Adds an exception message count from unassigned and unknown facilities
  • Adds new columns for report output grouped by facility: Site, Feed, Parent Organization, Vendor, Facility Type
  • Increases file size upload limit to 250 MB
  • Disables preview in “Report Preview Modal” for files greater than 60 MB
  • Updates Data-Quality-On-Demand (DQOD) summary report to single page
Effect on Services:

These tasks will require restarting some onboarding and production BioSense Platform servers several times. The following services will not be available during this update window:


  • Access & Management Center
  • Data Quality Dashboard
  • ESSENCE data processing
  • ESSENCE Web application
  • Posit Workbench (formerly RStudio Workbench)
  • SAS Studio

BioSense Platform Patching Closeout:


Vendor patches were applied to the onboarding and production BioSense Platform environments. Patching was completed on Thursday, May 23, 2024, at 8:45 am et.
