AZ BioSense Community of Practice

The mission of the Arizona BioSense Workgroup is to work collaboratively as partners to build capacity and quality of BioSense syndromic surveillance in Arizona. Our vision is to improve population health and emergency response through the use of timely and effective syndromic surveillance. This space is a platform for our members to continue discussions and share cross-role topics and questions from providing the data to using syndromic data (clinician/IT/public health).

📢 Onboarding and Production Vendor Patches 03/20/25




BioSense Platform Monthly Patching Reminder:

  • Vendor patches will be applied to the onboarding and production BioSense Platform environments.
  • The Access & Management Center (AMC) will be updated to version 2.13 the Data Quality Dashboard (DQDB) will be updated to version 2.3.
  • These servers will start going offline on Thursday, March 20, 2025, at 12:00 am et.
  • Servers will be restarted several times during the update window.
  • We plan to complete all work on Thursday, March 20, 2025, by 8:00 am et.
  • We will send you a closeout email when activities are complete.
AMC Updates:

  • Update the Batch Add Template to dynamically update directly from the Master Profile database
  • Update the Batch Edit Template to dynamically update directly from the Master Profile database
  • Add option to determine ESSENCE region from ZIP Code or county
  • Add Username column to the Software Usage screen
  • Add requester’s name and user role to the Software Request page
  • Add “Preferred_C_Visit_Date Format” field to the MFT form screen
  • Add “Preferred_C_Unique_Patient_ID Source” field to MFT form screen
DQDB Updates:

  • Fix issue where the column sorting feature in the Message Viewer wouldn’t sort
  • Fix bug causing text to overlap in the Data Flow tab
  • Fix display issue for global filters on Completeness, Validity, and Timeliness metrics
  • Fix bug causing Data Quality On Demand (DQOD) to crash while running certain reports
  • Update DQOD to version 2.0, which adds several new features:
    • Preview Report Structures: Display and fine-tune expected report output on a sheet-to-sheet basis, including columns and calculations
    • Sheet Management: Create, name, and rearrange sheets with unique metrics, aggregation, and formatting to build comprehensive reports
    • Global Filtering: Focus reports on key dates and fields of interest

    • Sheet Management: Create, name, and rearrange sheets with unique metrics, aggregation, and formatting to build comprehensive reports

    • Custom Formatting: Heatmap values with intuitive color schemes, specify performance thresholds, and focus on substandard results
    • Explore Nonconforming Messages: Define performance thresholds and analyze characteristics of individual messages with substandard data quality
    • Reproduce Shared Reports: Reveal embedded parameters of existing reports to replicate them or share configurations
 
Effect on Services:
These tasks will require restarting some onboarding and production BioSense Platform servers several times. The following services will not be available during this update window:

  • ESSENCE data processing
  • ESSENCE Web application
  • Posit Workbench
  • SAS Studio
