AZ BioSense Community of Practice

The mission of the Arizona BioSense Workgroup is to work collaboratively as partners to build capacity and quality of BioSense syndromic surveillance in Arizona. Our vision is to improve population health and emergency response through the use of timely and effective syndromic surveillance. This space is a platform for our members to continue discussions and share cross-role topics and questions from providing the data to using syndromic data (clinician/IT/public health).

SAVE THE DATE for a mini-conference on August 15th


The ADHS Syndromic Surveillance Team invites you to join the mini IPAC (Injury Prevention Advisory Council) conference on August 15th. This virtual event is hosted by a collaborative group from the ADHS Office of Injury and Violence Prevention and the Arizona Governor’s Council on Spinal and Head Injuries.


Please save the date for a deep dive into new data and possibilities from ADHS’s work with CDC’s Advancing Violence Epidemiology in Real-Time (AVERT). We’ll explore upcoming syndromic data definitions and gather input on questions, gaps, and population needs that these definitions aim to address. The data definitions will cover:

  • Firearm injuries (self-directed intentional, unintentional, and assault)
  • Intimate partner violence
  • Sexual violence
  • Suspected child abuse and neglect
  • Youth violence
  • Mental health (anxiety, depressive disorders, bipolar disorder, schizophrenia, trauma)
  • Neurodivergent or psychological syndromes (attention deficit-hyperactivity, disruptive behavior or impulse control, obsessive-compulsive, eating, and tic disorders)
