ME's Thoughts for Summit Agenda - 12/13/18
First Day
- I suggest having an introductory speaker talk on how climate change can affects respiratory health. Here is a link (https://resphealth.org/wp-content/uploads/2017/08/Issue-Brief-Climate-Change-and-Respiratory-Health.pdf) to an issue brief entitled “Climate Change and Respiratory Health,” from the Respiratory Health Association in Chicago that serves as a good example of topics this person can talk about during the summit. The person I am recommending to be the first speaker is Brian Urbaszewski. He is the Director of Environmental Health Program (burbaszewski@resphealth.org; 312-628-0245).
- If time permits, we can have three speakers to present an examples of how they are utilizing data and/or collaborating with partner organizations to inform the development of policies, program planning and innovative interventions/action strategies relative to wildfires, urban air & heat, and aeroallergens. The person I am recommending to speak on heat response is Mark Hartman. He is a Chief Sustainability Officer from the City of Phoenix. He is doing some interesting things relative to addressing extreme heat and urban heat islands that I thought would be beneficial for all attendees.
- The afternoon can serve as a time for subgroup members to focus on working on their projects or strategic plans.
Second Day
- The first half of the second day could be devoted to speakers from CDC, CSTE, etc. May be an epidemiologist who is funded by BRACE that can present on how they are addressing wildfires, aeroallergens, and/or urban air and heat.
- The afternoon could be spent having each of the subgroups to present on what projects they plan to focus on or are doing over the year.
