Costs for state-based surveys with cannabis data

All - Per the CSTE meeting today, we'd like to collect some information about the cost of survey questions in your state on BRFSS, YRBS and PRAMS. We would also like to hear about costs your state may have for Poison Center Data, EMS data sources, and Syndromic Surveillance (ESSENCE). Lastly, we would love to hear what resources you have (or feel are needed) for the surveillance systems. 

So for example: BRFSS - $5K/question, 0.5 FTE data analyst for cannabis data. 

Feel free to add any other information you think is important for us to have re: cost so we can help new states and other state agencies understand the costs of the cannabis pieces of state surveys and data sources.

No dedicated personnel for cannabis data. The Office of Medical Cannabis Control and Regulation (OMCCR) relies primarily on the Surveillance, Evaluation & Epidemiology Office (SEEO) which supports the BRFSS and YRBS.  SEEO staff include:
  • BRFSS Coordinator (1.0 FTE)
  • Two Research Statistician (1.0 FTE)
  • Epidemiologist III (1.0 FTE)
  • Epidemiologist II (1.0 FTE) 
BRFSS costs: ~$3K/question. OMCCR pays for 7 questions.
YRBS: no cost to programs to add questions. Questions are determined by a democratic process with the Hawaii School Health Survey Committee. 
PRAMS: currently not permitting the addition questions.

Hi all - responding on behalf of Alaska!

Cost for us depends on the year for BRFSS:
$28,000 (7 questions @ $4,000/per question), but not this year - we are moving to every other year.
 
YRBS is free, but we pay incentives $5,000, again every other year.
 
PRAMS - basically these are free data for us, those do not cost us directly, but cost is bore somewhere. We would have to dig a bit more on this one.

PCC- $100,000 contract paid from marijuana program/annually.
Epi Specialist 2 - 0.5 FTE.

EMS and Syndromic Data - we have direct access to these data systems so analysis cost is essentially folded into the Epi Specialist's position.
