ESSENCE + Cannabis work

Hey all! I work for RI Dept of Health and focus on cannabis use. I'm new to NSSP/ESSENCE and wanted to see what other's have done so far. The CDC has done this study with specific chief complaint terms and ICD-10 codes, so I'd love to hear if other's have tips for analyzing that, and/or any other measures for cannabis use that are interesting. Thanks :)

Hi Madison, the definition used in the paper is saved in NSSP as a CCDD query called 'Marijuana v3'. We're happy to discuss how to implement the query. We're also in the process of updating the query to capture a few changes to ICD-10-CM codes and to include more keywords and will keep the group updated on our progress in releasing Marijuana v4.

These might also be helpful - the word doc is a list of terms we search for in chief complaint and triage notes. The txt file includes R code I use. HMS, a syndromic surveillance contractor, developed the regex. I adapted it for use in R. Let me know if you see issues, have feedback, etc.
