The audience for this Basecamp is CSTE members working at STLT health departments participating in COVID-19 response activities. Appropriate resources to upload include health department-created guidance documents, resources, or other useful tools that may be helpful to other jurisdictions during their response. Hi everyone, We're interested in learning about how states are keeping track of vaccination of "essential workers" as they become eligible to get the vaccine. This question has a few parts to it:
How do states "check" eligibility of specific priority groups (i.e. those meeting criteria as an essential worker) during the vaccination registration process?
Does your state data collection instrument used during COVID-19 vaccination registration or administration include any data elements related to employment? (e.g. industry or occupation, employer name, etc)

In NC it’s self-attestation that they’re essential workers. (though some employers mass upload their employees to register them.)
We were initially collecting industry, occupation, etc. but that was when we were requiring everyone to enter data directly into our vaccine management system. Now that we’ve built ways to ingest data directly from EHRs, where that type of data is not typically found, we have stopped requiring it.

Thanks, Jessie, That's very interesting that data collection of I/O stopped once connected to the EHR. While a person's occupation and/or industry is likely collected upon registration at a healthcare facility, there isn't a seamless transfer of that data into the EHR (some of that is an IT problem). Since I have been involved in any of the work surrounding vaccination of essential workers, I reached out to LDH’s Immunization Program to help answer the questions you posed. I’ve included the response that I received (below my email signature), but it appears that LDH isn’t checking eligibility of specific priority groups, that’s being left to the PODs. There is no state data collection instrument being used.

For eligible essential workers, many are vaccinated right now through closed PODs. i.e. a school district partnered with a site or Sheriff's have a closed POD. In these case we let the eligible workforce coordinate directly with a vaccine provider. Essential workers are also able to bring a pay stub or some other type of ID that identifies there eligible workplace to one of our publicly listed Vaccine providers.
We are not tracking any of these numbers centrally and holding vaccination sites to make good judgements/investigating reports of vaccination outside the priority groups.
