CSTE Data Standardization Workgroup

Workgroup Mission: Improve data quality through the development and application of consensus definitions for the core data elements for surveillance.

Please input your thoughts on Diagnosis Date in the Smartsheet form. Click here for directions. Archived

  • What does this data element look like in the surveillance system? Is it a singular data element reflecting the Generic v2.0 description? Is the data element required? How is it used?
  • What source of information do you use for Diagnosis Date? Clinical and laboratory sources, or only one?
  • If clinical, what information is considered the diagnosis? (e.g., Report from the healthcare provider to public health, provider interview, chart review and diagnosis/code, patient self-reported diagnosis)
  • If laboratory, what date is considered the Diagnosis Date? (e.g., order/specimen collection/resulted dates, date the results were printed for reporting, date the results were received to public health)
  • How do you reconcile conflicting information?
  • Could there be a circumstance where there is no diagnosis from a healthcare provider or laboratory?
