CSTE Updates

• The 2019 CSTE Annual Conference is being held in Raleigh, NC on June 2-6, 2019
  • Theme: "First in Flight: Recognizing Risk Takers & Risk Factors"
  • Call for Abstracts opens Thursday, November 1, 2018
  • Let Melissa and Hayleigh know if you plan to submit an abstract on EH in schools
• Host Site Application deadline has been extended to Friday, November 2, 2018
  • New this year: MPH epidemiologists can apply to be primary mentors

Workgroup Discussions

• White paper/brief update - in the approval process with Melissa
  • Going to adjust the white paper/brief to remove aspects related to an independent network for environmental health in schools surveillance and add information on how environmental health in schools surveillance indicators could be incorporated into EPHT Portal
    • EPHT has started having radon in schools discussions
    • Will look to get someone at EPHT to join these calls
  • Indicators of interest discussed:
    • Process measures (e.g., IAQ Program at the school? Asthma Healthy School?)
    • Pesticides
    • Administrative data (e.g., fire inspections)
      • Reach out to states that indicated that they have access to this data on previous assessment to better understand what the data looks like/contains
    • Law requirements by state
  • Once Melissa updates the draft, she will post on Basecamp for feedback/comments/edits
    • Please review overall document, but particularly sections related to the pilot studies and environmental exposures
• Plans going forward
  • Will talk again in December (next call scheduled for Monday, December 10th @ 2pm EST)
  • Michele to develop an environmental sampling in schools indicator template to share with the group via Basecamp
  • Answer the following questions - what do with testing data once we have it? How utilized multiple data points per one location? What do post-testing?
    • A lessons learned formal document would be helpful for when developing guidelines for testing
