The WG discussed several pilots, not just the two highlighted in Mid-Atl region. The final paper should be edited to include regional and national EPHT examples that will be helpful, specifically those that may tap related data and those not requiring new medical testing of children.

2021 comments good summary of past work, but does not take PH policy statements into account -- (APHA detail 2017-13) - suggest that tracking start broad, not narrow niche - re data tracking-- add complaints to local or state PH; SN do not report data - Cancer-- are there any CA that manifest within a few short years? - Lung function/other testing- don't think that any tracking should require invasive/expensive med testing of kids. Impractical, unfair. - multi site, not single site study (eg Pittsb) - need to engage Occ Health

My primary comment is the issue briefing recommends creation of a new Children's Environmental Public Health Tracking Network, which would seemingly run in parallel to the existing National Environmental Public Health Tracking Network. I believe CSTE would be ill-served to present this particular recommendation. Instead, CSTE could recommend that the existing network focus on creating indicators relevant to schools and children and provide a few ideas. I think the issue briefing should be revised in this manner.

Adding—I don’t think that tracking children env health at school should require any invasive testing – this should start as something non-tech and do-able, broad-based, and include “complaint” tracking to ensure that early/preventive interventions can take place.

I support recommendations for bolstering the existing Environmental Public Health Tracking Network and adding indicators of Environmental Health in Schools to the existing data portal such as: - School maintenance funding - School building age and when last renovated - Lead or asbestos violations - Sanitation grades - Placement of school with respect to pollutants or Superfund sites - IPM policy adoption - Chemical releases within 1 mile radius of the school - Flooding - Public safety? - LEED certified?
I also do not think it is practical to start a specific Children's EPHTN, when all states are not even funded to participate in EPHTN. We also need to add a recommendation to educate school administrators on environmental health. EPA Healthy School Environments would be a good partner to add to the list.
I'm happy to give more specific/ detailed comments if necessary, but the paper still seems like there are several sections that are unfinished.
