Today’s Tip
Draw from the Arts to Re-energize Your Team
As remote working drags on, it may be time to re-energize employees who are feeling bored or uninspired. One place managers can turn to for inspiration? The arts. Here are five techniques that you and your team can use to spark some creativity and break up the monotony of WFH.
1. Visualizing can help you separate what’s important from the details. Try drawing the answer to a business problem instead of writing it out. (No flow charts allowed!)
2. Improv helps you see problems from new perspectives. Play a round of the classic “Yes and…” game to see what kind of new ideas your team can brainstorm.
3. Dancing releases endorphins and helps you feel relaxed. Throw a Zoom dance party for your team — cameras optional.
4. Writing and reading poetry helps you access different parts of your brain. Give your team the opportunity to freestyle some ideas on paper. Maybe their internal monologue can identify some themes relevant to what’s going on at your company.
5. Playing and listening to music can calm you down — and help you connect with others. Create a shared playlist that everyone can contribute to.
The arts aren’t just about fun for fun’s sake — they can allow employees to channel pent-up thoughts and emotions into something constructive.
