So a direct report doesn't like you...

[Management Tip of the Day]<https://t.a.email.hbr.org/r/?id=h91656cc7,111ea84f,111ea851&p1=?utm_medium=email&utm_source=newsletter_daily&utm_campaign=mtod_actsubs&utm_content=signinnudge>
Today’s Tip
So Your Direct Report Doesn't Like You…
As a manager, it’s not easy when one of your direct reports doesn’t seem to like you. It can be uncomfortable and frustrating. Before you decide the other person is to blame — or that you’re in an impossible situation — reflect on how you might be contributing to the problem. Ask yourself: What kind of boss am I? Am I consistent? Do I overlook or dismiss this person in meetings? How much do I really know about them? Be honest with yourself. Once you've taken stock of the reality of the situation, hit refresh. Focus on taking proactive steps to manage the situation — regardless of whether the problem lies with you, your employee, or both in equal measure. This requires having an honest and open conversation in which you share your experience, your reflections, and, crucially, ask to hear their side of the story. This conversation is just the beginning. Continue making a concerted effort to form a new foundation of trust. Tell your direct report that you have their back and that you want to move forward in tandem.

I am curious to hear if others have had this experience - and how they dealt with it.
