Hello from Chicago

Hi Everyone,

My name is Alfreda. I am the Director of Epidemiology at the Cook County Department of Public Health. She earned a bachelor’s degree from Washington University in St. Louis, and a Master of Science, Epidemiology and Doctorate in Environmental and Occupational Health Sciences from the University of Illinois at Chicago (UIC) School of Public Health. 

 

I am a Research Assistant Professor in the Division of Environmental and Occupational Health Sciences at UIC where she focuses on surveilling police caused injury to citizens and occupational injury among police through law enforcement epidemiology (policeepi.uic.edu).  

 

I served as the 2019–2020 Chair of Occupational Health and Safety section and President of the Black Caucus of Health Workers, of the American Public Health Association. I am currently the Co-Chair of the Health Equity and Health Disparities Steering Committee at the Council of State and Territorial Epidemiologists, and looking for an additional Co-Chair - so if you are interested, please let me know.  Additionally, I am the Co-Chair of the Epidemiology and Health Informatics subcommittee at the Northern Illinois Public Health Consortium. 

At work, I am currently the lead of the vaccine data surveillance initiative.

Due to being fairly new to my LHD, not having a director in my position for more than 7 years and lack of planning for my unit, my project is to develop a strategic plan for my Epidemiology Unit.
