Hello from Virginia!
Hey y'all!
My name is Em Stephens. I currently work as the Respiratory Disease Coordinator at the Virginia Department of Health where I lead a small team of epis as we develop, enhance, and maintain surveillance, investigation, and prevention strategies. I've been with VDH for about seven years, five of those as an epidemiologist. I'm particularly interested in the intersection of epidemiology and data science; I want to help empower public health to integrate data sources and build analyses. As part of my LEAD project, I plan to start a workgroup of data scientists and data stewards. I hope to make data more available to analysts while making sure they're used responsibly. I'm really excited to learn from all the experts and other participants in the LEAD program - all of your bios are really impressive!
In my free time I like to run and try out new baking recipes. My husband and have been eating a lot more baked goods this year without having an office to foist them off on!
