Accepting NullFlavor codes

This question on NullFlavor codes was raised by the AIMS team on the 4/14 APHL ELR Open Call โ€“ interested to get more feedback from the community.

In the past, the AIMS team has had jurisdictions come back to them that their systems cannot accept the Null Flavor codes. They would like to determine if this is still an issue. If so, is there an estimated timeline for being able to accept these values?

Do any jurisdictions have issues accepting NullFlavor codes? For those that do have issues, are you working to be able to accept? What is the timeline for that?

Feel free to reply directly to this thread; you can also send feedback via email to Millie Malai (millie.malai@aphl.org) and Doug York (fyork@deloitte.com

For reference this is the full code system (from HL7 V3) - can be used in any coded (CE or CWE) HL7 field, unless the value set already includes a code for a concept in this code system (e.g U^Unknown^HL70189 for ethnicity) - is most common for AOEs.
