July ELR Call topics

Hi all,
I'd like to see if we could get some clarification from CDC/HHS about the new guidance as a separate topic from the universal csv progress.

Brooke -- any chance we can get our community an update and also get more feedback from the community?

Anyone else have any thoughts/topics?

thanks!
Nancy

Thanks Nancy for starting this thread! Louisiana would certainly appreciate some guidance on how this data should be implemented in HL7 v2.5.1. We have started getting questions from our laboratories. But we're still unclear about how to structure everything. Any help is greatly appreciated!

Here is a link to the guidance that was forwarded to CDC/HSS for feedback from the group of PH SMEs (including CSTE) and HL7 folks: https://confluence.hl7.org/display/OO/Proposed+HHS+ELR+Submission+Guidance+using+HL7+v2+Messages

We are working on a profile component to put on top of any existing ELR (ideally v2.5.1 R1) , so that validation can be added - but this should address how to get these elements into any version.

Also -- I'm getting questions from labs as well about the HHS guidance, including lots of concern about ability to implement or reasons why. Labs are asking for calls to explain, which I can't do until I'm clear on what is really going to happen as well.

Well maybe check with Jason - I am don't have the reasons ...

Hi Riki and Brooke,
Riki I heard your presentation on the APHL call with the PHL. I believe you mentioned that we should know soon what the HHS feedback is?

Brooke, if that is the case, one ask I would have is to discuss how we approach labs on this - what information to give them, do we need them to switch to the new csv at this point, who can give direct assistance to labs, should we have calls with labs including someone from APHL, etc.

What do others think?

That's my hope, but I am working with what we have, cause I have to pass off the file today to my developers.
I don't think that all have to switch to the flatfile, if you have a working csv file and can expand that - I think adoption of this file is entirely voluntary.
Happy to get on a planning call, if you like.
the flatfile gap analysis should have all its contents defined by end of day today– the excel file to be distributed with the macros and instructions etc. will take a little longer, but I am handing it over to the tech folks (they have started working on the current version, but will need to adjust just a bit) tomorrow. Along with the excel file development the tech folks will also build the HL7 converting route in rhapsody and mirth – not sure what the timeline is for that, but that is what the PHAs will ingest - but one of the partners is aiming for 7/20, so we better be ready!

All of that is an incredible achievement, Riki! Thank you for all of your amazing work on this. I'm very excited for this to move forward.

Brooke Beaulieu, Surveillance/Informatics Program Analyst at CSTE Brooke   and Nancy Barrett, Epi 4/PH Informatics Specialist Nancy - will there be a discussion about the HHS reporting on the call tomorrow? It's unclear to me if there's still outstanding questions around this.

Thank you!

Hi Amanda, I think there are still lots of questions. It will be the topic for tomorrow's call. thanks!
