📢 July WG Call Topics?

Hey Workgroup,
Any topics of interest for next week's July ELR WG Call? If Nancy and I don't receive any topic ideas, we will cancel the call.

Best,
Meredith

Hi,
We have been lucky enough to hire a Project Manager to develop and document our ELR onboarding process.  It is clear that other states have tools, resources and processes that we should be considering.
Are there any ELR coordinators (or laboratory personnel, of course) out there who would be willing to take a look at our onboarding process and provide feedback?  It could be on a web conference or in writing...  Our PM is also willing to run a meeting with multiple ELR coordinators from multiple states.
Thank you!
Amy

Hi Amy, can you remind us to bring this up on the national ELR call next week? I'd love to see what you've documented as that is always a struggle especially when you are in the thick of things.

Hi David et al,
We are ready to share/present our overall flow for ELR onboarding when you are ready.  We could send it out as a PDF but would generally prefer to walk people through it as there are contextual factors that affect the flow.

Thank you for your help with this.  We'd be happy to walk through it for anyone who wants.

Nancy: We are still struggling with questions about how we will determine if a lab is sending us all reports.
Thanks-
Amy

Hi Amy,
I'd love to see you present this on the call as a draft or work in progress if you prefer? Would you be willing to do that tomorrow?

Also -- MN had presented on an EIP IT call about auditing - maybe I can get Stephanie or Sarah to bring up ont his call.

Thanks!

Unfortunately we are conducting interviews during that time tomorrow. When is the next meeting?  And can we get on that agenda?
Nancy Barrett, Epi 4/PH Informatics Specialist
I believe the next call would be November 1st (first Tuesday of the month). It's good with me if we put you on that agenda!

November 5 is the correct date!

Has any jurisdiction succeeded in getting an automated ELR interface out of a VA (Veterans Administration) facility?  We know the VA issued an internal mandate (attached--June 2013) that all VA facilities should comply with the reportable disease requirements within their jurisdiction.  That was in 2013 (it had a schedule expiration data of June 30 2018---not sure if it was renewed or is it in limbo???).  That directive DID NOT mandate or even mention automated ELR.  To the best of my knowledge, all of our work to engage the VA at the national level to develop a system-wide automated ELR project fell on deaf ears.  Our local VA (Omaha, Nebraska) is will to engage/discuss, and the VA lab director is VERY supportive.  It appears to be at the discretion of a local VA to undertake this.  Our local VA does report  prescriptions to our statewide prescription drug database, so there is established precedent.  I'm asking if anyone else has gotten this far or even beyond this in developing a fully automated ELR from a VA facility.

Tom,

We have all of our VA hospitals reporting electronically to us in NY, however it is not quite automated. The smaller ones use our manual entry portal for reporting and the larger ones in the NYC area report using a flat file, not HL7. We had discussions with a local VA IT person to create HL7 a couple years ago, but it stalled sue to other projects at the VA and needing the proper sign-offs. He has since retired and no one stepped up to continue this process.

Thanks,
