I am trying to help some of the DOD labs with reporting - they don't have a CLIA number, but a CLIP# - do you want that in MSH-4? If yes, what do I put for MSH-4.3? Or will you accept an OID?

For PA, we’ll take either but we have to have them ahead of time, as usual, and 4.3 does not matter, I’d be fine with “CLIP” or “OID”. We only rely on the 4.1 value and just carry 4.2 and 4.3 along regardless of content.

We would accept an OID, but would need to know the corresponding CLIP# because we translate OID to CLIA (within our system we would pretend that the CLIP# is a CLIA#). All we would need to do is add the OID and CLIP# to our translation table.
If you want to put the CLIP# in MSH-4.1 and "CLIP" in MSH-4.3 that would be OK; we would just need to add "CLIP" to HL7 table HL70301.

Cool - I would prefer to send you OIDs to stick to HL7 codes in MSH-4.3 - with the CLIP# available as well - and notifying ahead of time - so that's what I will implement - thanks for the fast response!

Hi -- the DoD birthdates are not usable? has anyone else seen this issue? Were you able to get DoD to make corrections in any of your files?

One of the files I received did have DOBs that were numbers that did not translate to dates and I am waiting for those to be resent. However, DOBs have been fine for other files.
I am working to make sure they use the right format when they are using the HL7 generator tool. We found a bug and have made an update, a new version should be posted by EOD today and then I will migrate the DOd content into the new versions and send back for those sites that are working with me.
