NHSN OBX17 discrepancy Archived
WA is currently validating our NHSN submitter files and came across a discrepancy in the ‘TEST__METHOD__OBX17__LITERAL’ field that other states may have faced.
“BinaxNOW COVID-19 Ag Card_Abbott Diagnostics Scarborough, Inc._EUA^^99ELR^^^^Vunknown” is one of the test devices/methods listed in the drop menu of the NHSN form. But in several cases, we also see “BinaxNOW COVID-19 A#^^99ELR^^^^Vunknown“. There's also a test result note, “NTE|1|L|BinaxNOW COVID-19 Ag Card_Abbott Diagnostics Scarborough, Inc._EUA” for both methods.
Has anyone else seen this and can explain what might be happening? We're checking if the A# is acceptable for our systems. Thank you!

Where OBX-17.1 length limits interfere with the full identification use the following approach:
OBX-17: ID NOW COVID-19_Abb#^^99ELR
Full ID for the NTE: ID NOW COVID-19_Abbott Diagnostics Scarborough, Inc._EUA

For those senders that use AIMS routing AIMS has a custom filter per PHA that truncates, if needed - sorry to not know right off the top of my head, which PHA you are with - if you tell me, I can check if the filter is set for you or not.
