Q & A from WA DOH DQA Presentation on ELR WG call
Hi All,
Please see Michelle's responses below. Also please see the attached "All Notifiable Conditions" worksheet -
Logan Smith-VA- What is the custom app you’re using for structural validation- The WA DOH ELR team uses a custom HL7 validator from vendor Altarum and based on the Michigan validator built in Rhapsody. This is useful in addition to using the NIST validator, as it is customized to highlight errors of particular importance to WA ELR system needs.

Jessica Romano- can you share the R-Shiny code you use to track submitters that haven't reported in a specific timeframe? Jessica - please contact me julie.vanderkolk@doh.wa.gov We presented the R-Shiny on CSTE calls previously. Looking for presentation to post to Basecamp.
RJ Kelly-NC- How does WELRS produce the data that gets imported into MAVEN. Are you pushing XML, HL7, customized import mapping ? We have middleware including Rhapsody between WELRS and WDRS which produces a MIF for consumption by WDRS/Maven
Samorga Young- MDPH- How did you get providers to send pregnancy data in OBR.31 (Reason of Study) or OBR.13 (Relevant Clinical Information)? Was the tendency of Sites to apply special logic or employ an all or none approach to populating these fields? We request pregnancy info in OBX3/5 via COVID AOE format. Please see https://doh.wa.gov/public-health-healthcare-providers/notifiable-conditions/rule-making/rule-revision-implementation/supplemental-guidance-elr-submitters for details
Theresa Kittle- What is the educational background of the ELR team? Are they Epidemiologists, IT focused, something else? @Vanderkolk, Julie (DOH) will need to answer this for her production team. My onboarding team has a lab technician, another public health degree and 2 people with healthcare informatics backgrounds. ELR team has a mix of epidemiologists and informaticians with various public health, medical, informatics, and technical education backgrounds.
Karen-NV- Would you be willing to share the 'All Conditions Worksheet'? That looks like a super useful tool! Attached
Cody-OR- eCR – how do you plan to validate eCRs? This is something OR is struggling with and would love to partner up on. For eCR we are validating the content coming in from AIMS. Please reach out to me if you would like more direct information on our process. We are just beginning it now, so it’s a work in progress. Michelle.miller@doh.wa.gov.
Thanks!
Steve
