😢 Refusal to report NPI

We have a number of laboratories that are unable to report provider NPI. But they say they're working to implement that data element in their system. Then they will be able to report. That seems reasonable to me. They may or may not actually be working on it. But we take them at their word. Unfortunately, we have a laboratory that is refusing to integrate that element into their system. Here's the quote:

"There is no plan to build ordering physician NPI into our database as it is not a client or billing requirement at this time."

We have informed them that it is an HHS requirement. But so far that has not moved them. Anyone have advice on strategies to motivate laboratories to build these or other cares act data elements?

NPI is not a field Maryland has been strict about. We have a hard enough time getting patient addresses from some facilities!
