USCDI overview

Hi -- I'm on the PEW research call about ELR and the USCDI has been brought up as the place where demographic data is defined.

Chris Baumgartner, Senior Data Exchange Manager Chris - would you be able to run through that on the December call? Or is there another person (Steve Lane?)

maybe it's just me, but I was not familiar with it.

Comments & Events

Chris Baumgartner, Senior Data Exchange Manager

I could likely provide a bit of an overview on USCDI an the Info Blocking Rules - what they mean for PH. I would encourage us though to get Dan Chaput or Rachel Abbey who are the ONC PH Analysts to present.
Nancy Barrett, Epi 4/PH Informatics Specialist
Great -- Brooke -- do you have Dan or Rachel contact info?

Chris -- I was bit dismayed to hear that labs weren't included in the updating of that standard.
Riki Merrick, Terminologist at APHL
Nancy,
as I understand it ONC has an annual comment period to provide suggestions for inclusion in the USCDI, which just closed for this year, so we need to review and then collate comments to submit for next year - focus of this seem to be the EHR-S mostly, but they certainly should be taking input from labs and PH.

Dan Chaput <Daniel.Chaput@hhs.gov>; Abbey, Rachel (OS/ONC) Rachel.Abbey@hhs.gov<mailto:Rachel.Abbey@hhs.gov>

FYI – I feel a primer for the group on what the rule is and how it impacts PH would be a good thing to learn about now so we can play a better role in helping guide and update it.

Sincerely,

Chris Baumgartner

Thanks Chris and Riki!
Kate Goodin, Surveillance Systems and Informatics Program Director
CSTE ran a comment period on the standards as well and had member feedback that was coordinated with CDC’s data harmonization group.

Brooke or Becky, do we have a version of what was submitted?

-Kate
Crystal Snare
Similarly, HL7 coordinated submissions to USCDI. They reviewed them on the public health call. A few public-health relevant elements were submitted for immunizations, birth defects, eCR, and medmorph, if I recall correctly.  -Crystal
