Webinar 4 Learning Objectives and Input Needed

Good Afternoon All,

The topic for Webinar 4 will be Communicating the Value of Public Health Informatics.  The proposed learning objectives for the webinar are listed below:

Learning Objectives
By the end of the training participants will be able to:
  • Describe basic principles for effective communication 
  • Define informatics effectively to technical and non-technical audiences 
  • Describe how informatics can assist in addressing public health problems 
  • Utilize talking points or an elevator speech to communicate value of informatics
  • Apply communications principles for engaging stakeholders involved in informatics projects
Similar to the other webinars, I would like to customize the training and wanted to know are there any specific topics that you would like for me to include in this webinar?  Please reply to this thread with any input regarding the webinar objectives as well as if you have any specific requests for topics to be included.

Good morning - anyone want to chime in and share from their experience the good and the bad for communicating about informatics?  We heard in the evaluations that you like examples, but we need you all to also step up and share from your own experience to provide those examples.  Thanks!

I think we are all involved in ELC grants at this point! I would like to know the experiences of other states with their IT programs -- competition or collaboration? Is it a different relationship with agency IT vs. the state IT "overlords"?

We have individuals in our agency who are subject matter experts in a specific disease area but are also extremely savvy technically. Closing the gap between the informatics pieces of how data comes into the agency, the work the validation team does with it, and how it gets to the disease area programs is still very confusing for even the brightest of epis in our agency.

Sorry group, crazy last two months and I have been traveling during the weeks we have been having the activity calls and really just now playing catch-up.  I would love for there to be time at CSTE where we could as a group tackle these questions, I know here in Kentucky we struggle with this relationship between department staff(thinking/needs) and our cabinet (OAT) staff, and the state larger (COT) staff.  This can range from being able to actually hire typical ITish positions/ determining when to go with an outside vendor over in-house staff, and how that all is managed given the political winds of change that happens.
