How are you using your syndromic surveillance data this month?

I created a 5-year retrospective report of sexual violence in Arizona using the v3 sexual violence syndrome definition. The state of Washington had done a very similar study a few years ago. Through the research, I discovered that ED visits related to sexual violence has increased substantially over the last 5 years. In addition, I identified populations that were overrepresented in sexual violence ED visits. These populations included females between 15 to 24 years, Native American females, Black females, and females living in the county of Pima.  

With an intent to support suicide and opioid overdose prevention programs.

I am using my syndromic surveillance data this month to inform the School Health Needs Assessment I am putting together. 

For the past year, Coconino County had been reporting %CLI in our weekly report as provided by ADHS for the northern region. Starting last week, we are now pulling the data directly from ESSENCE to report this metric specifically for Coconino County from our two reporting facilities (FMC and Banner Page)

Pima County uses SyS to provide high level updates to HD staff, administrators, and medical officers 2x/week. Specifically, query of "weekly % of CLI and PNA ED and IP visits" is refreshed daily and reported to department heads, SMEs, and management team.   

We are conducting bi-weekly drug overdose surveillance meetings to measure non-fatal overdoses. We are also using it to monitor trends in NAS cases. 

Working with injury team to explore ESSENCE for overdose related CCDD categories for surveillance activities.

We will be using it to begin our OFR report.
