Cold Syndrome Guidance Doc Call – August 2, 2018

  • Background section: complete
  • Methods section: complete
  • Regional variations/terms section
    • Still need states to add to this
    • Fatema (MI) could maybe help with this (exclude frozen because of "frozen shoulder")
  • Novel query section
    • Question: is the document on Basecamp the current
      • Katie to double-check to see if updated version there and if not will post
    • Nelson (if can and willing) to run again with the few additional inclusions/exclusions
  • Steps for implementing section
    • Matt developed (see last month’s notes in Google doc for details)
  • Syndrome validation section
    • Query very specific, need to be aware of what is missing but a good indicator of trends overall
      • Consistent with an analysis that NJ did for heat (very specific but not super sensitive) cases
      • Cases picked up tend to be correct but still miss fair amount of cases in general
      • If aware of that can treat as indicator
    • Katie to add language to this section
  • Potential uses for data section
    • Fatema wrote up (in Basecamp)
      • Discusses how MI uses data to create a weekly report
        • Report no longer listed online but looking into, but MI approved report to be added as an appendix
        • Fatema to look into finding a good report to add as an appendix (routine or unique)
  • Limitations section
    • Katie wrote up (in Basecamp)
  • Conclusions/recommendations section
    • Still need this section
  • Other comments
    • Look at getting document farther along before Nelson puts through some sort of clearance
    • Potential external reviewers
      • Laurel Harduar Morano (helped with SyS Climate Guidance Doc), Katie Conlon (CDC SME), Meredith Jagger (CSTE member/SyS SME), Rasneet Kumar (ISDS SyS co-lead – on maternity leave but supervisor Jessica White may be able to review), Zach Stein (ISDS SyS co-lead), Amy (works with ISDS – reviewed heat document, recently posted about winter weather injuries, could maybe provide info on regional variations/terms), Emilie Lamb (ISDS – helping with other SyS CSTE docs)
      • Plan to email them now to get document on their radar for when done
        • Henri to give Zach heads up and send Hayleigh contact info co-lead
        • Matt to contact Laurel, Amy, and Katie
        • Hayleigh to email Emilie and Meredith
    • Goal: finish draft of whole document in next month
      • Will plan to circulate more complete document approx.. 1 week before next call (in a month)
    • Things to think about
      • May need to put through own jurisdiction clearance
      • Think if any piece you've contributed would need to be reviewed by your jurisdiction
    • Next call meant for finalizing
    • FYI - Matt might be MIA in Sept with wife pregnant, but will be around in Oct
