Age of consent for HCV testing without parental permission

Hello,

Is anyone aware of the age of consent for Hepatitis C testing without parental permission, in their state? Is there a link where I can find out this information for all states?

At our county health department in Michigan, the age of consent for HCV testing without parental permission is 13, but I am having trouble finding any language about this for the State of Michigan.

It is indeed difficult to find language related to HCV age of consent testing.

Hi Bernice!

This question got me digging into UTs laws and it is quite complex and doesn't outline specifics for HCV. We have a clear code for STDs, which allows any minor to seek medical care/services for STDs. Additionally, the following minor's are treated as consenting adults under this code: 
  • Legally emancipated minors
  • Those in active military service (I thought you had to be 18?)
  • Unaccompanied homeless minors 15 years of age or older
  • Minors who are lawfully married
Also, under Title X, state grantees must allow family planning services without parental consent. Services can include patient education and counseling concerning family planning, contraceptive supplies and education, basic infertility services, pregnancy diagnosis and counseling, cervical and breast cancer screening, sexually transmitted disease and HIV prevention education, testing and referral.

As mentioned, none of these are specific to HCV, but we may leverage them depending on the minors sex and circumstances.

Thank you. It is similar for us in New Jersey. There is mention of minors testing and treatment for STDs, but nothing specific to Hepatitis.
