Experience Launching a Tarkforce

Hello fellow LEADers,
I am reaching out to seek advice on launching a Taskforce. This is part of my project, and is a critical component in accomplishing the other project objectives. I am leaning towards calling it a taskforce rather than a Work Group because my vision is that it may be short-term is and very goal-oriented. I would really love to hear from you all on:
1. Have you been involved in launching a taskforce before? If so, what went well and what would you do differently next time.
2. Have you been/ are you currently part of a taskforce? If so, what are the elements that work well and what could be done better?
Thank you so much!
Best,
Chloe

Hi Chloe,

I recently started a taskforce/workgroup for hepatitis C elimination planning in Utah and am curious what advice others have on this! My group is different in that it will be long term, but I am also trying to keep it goal oriented and direct to try to keep the group engaged.

Because we just started I can't quite say what is working well or not working yet but I am working on the following with the group:
  • a SWOT analysis to better direct our work/goals
  • a timeline to establish smaller targets and goals, as our elimination project is quite overwhelming
  • setting action items at the end of each meeting
  • sending out an evaluation of our meetings and the group to solicit feedback and ensure attendees are getting the most out of the group
I also am trying to be very respectful of how overworked/stressed my group is right now and continue to reiterate that they can be as involved as they are able to. Finally, in an effort to reduce meetings and stress, we have not yet established workgroups, but this may come down the road when we have a better plan in place and more specific direction/tasks for the group.
