CSTE Legionnaires' Disease Surveillance Workgroup

The purpose of this workgroup is to inform and improve practices related to Legionnaires’ disease surveillance and response in local, state, tribal, and territorial settings.

Notes 11/9/2018

Here’s a summary of the call earlier today with action items for next week. Jamie- let me know if there’s anything that I can clarify since you weren’t able to join us, and I hope everything is okay in FL!
  • We will include IP as an appendix/addendum to the CSTE case definition since it drives much of the epi investigation activities
  • IP for Pontiac Fever 
    • There aren’t many resources 
    • Johnathan and I have reviewed a few 
    • I’ve uploaded some resources into the IP>PF Basecamp section 
    • There’s a spreadsheet there for at-a-glance review of resources with IP values for Pontiac Fever 
    • Action Item (All): Continue to review resources/published outbreaks for IP data for PF and update the spreadsheet with data. 
  • CDC prefers to maintain 10-day exposure period for HAI 
    • We confirmed our consensus that it is operationally better to conduct investigations based on one date range, not 2. 
    • We confirmed our consensus that the single date range that should be used is 1-14 days. 
    • CDC wasn’t able to provide data this week re: burden/examples of instances that would not have been investigated 
    • Action Item: Liz will reach back to CDC with the following requests 
      • Data re: actual impact on investigations 
      • Data to support using 10 days for definite HAI in the first place 
      • Are there other issues? (i.e. CDC needing to update all of their published recommendations) 
    • Action Item (All): Think more about which conflicting recommendations are likely to cause issues, and how severe the issues may or may not be, and how strongly you do (or don’t) want to push back. 
      • Conflicting recommendation within the HAI appendix to CSTE case definition 
      • Conflicting recommendation within CDC online documents

  • Agenda 
    • Review data for PF IP and come to consensus on recommended IP values 
    • Review data from CDC re: 10 days for “definite” cases and discuss 
    • Determine next steps for dealing with “definite” discrepancy (i.e. Should we present to the full case definition group? Schedule a call with CDC folks?)
