There are a variety of publicly available data resources that make it possible to conduct a range of analyses related to health care and public health at the state- and sub-state levels. Key to making effective use of these data is knowing how to access them and understanding what types of analyses different data sources can support.

There are a variety of publicly available data resources that make it possible to conduct a range of analyses related to health care and public health at the state- and sub-state levels. Key to making effective use of these data is knowing how to access them and understanding what types of analyses different data sources can support.
This presentation will show how SHADAC has used different public-use data resources to produce state-level and sub-state-level analyses on a variety of topics related to health care and health outcomes. The presentation will also give an overview of the range of data sources that support state-level analysis and how state and local public health professionals can access and use these data to perform these and other analyses relevant to their work.
By the end of the webinar, participants will be able to:
- Learn about the range of publicly available data sources that allow for state-level health care policy and public health analyses
- Learn how to access and use these data with examples of different types of analyses they can be used to conduct
About our speaker:
Robert Hest, MPP is a Research Fellow at SHADAC at the University of Minnesota School of Public Health where he manages State Health Compare, SHADAC’s web-based data-dissemination platform focused on state-level measures related to health care and the broader Culture of Health. He works extensively with federal survey data such as the American Community Survey, National Health Interview Survey, and Behavioral Risk Factor Surveillance System, among others to produce measures for State Health Compare and perform other quantitative health policy analyses. In addition to managing State Health Compare, Robert works on SHADAC's Long-term Care Projection Model (MN-LPM), which projects future long-term care utilization and spending among older adults and tracks 1332 State Innovation Waivers for State-Based Reinsurance programs.
