Upcoming HCUP trainings

The Healthcare Cost and Utilization Project (HCUP) includes the largest collection of longitudinal hospital care data in the United States.  There are several ways to learn about HCUP:
 
·        HCUP Overview webinar on April 17, 2019, 2-3 pm ET – Explains what the project is and teaches about its national and state databases.  Opportunity to submit questions during the webinar.  Preregistration is required.  Sign up to be notified about the webinar and other HCUP news and events via the HCUP mailing list.  
 
·        HCUP Tools and Products webinar on April 24, 2019, 2-3 pm ET – Teaches about the software tools and supplemental files that enrich and facilitate use of the data.  Opportunity to submit questions during the webinar.  Preregistration is required.  Sign up to be notified about the webinar and other HCUP news and events via the HCUP mailing list.  
 
·        HCUP Online Overview Tutorial - 90 minute self-paced online course providing information about HCUP data, software tools, and products. The tutorial covers the features, capabilities, and potential uses of HCUP resources.
 
·        HCUPnet – Free online query system based on data from HCUP.  Provides instant access to select HCUP national and state level statistics.  Also includes some county and region (aggregated counties) level hospitalization rates for diagnoses and procedures.
 
·        Fast Stats – Latest HCUP statistics available immediately for the Nation and States on select topics.
 
·        HCUP Statistical Briefs - Descriptive statistical reports on a variety of specific health-care related issues.

For those unfamiliar with HCUP, here is a description:

HCUP is a family of health care databases, software tools, research publications, and support services.  It was created through a Federal-State-Industry partnership and is sponsored by AHRQ, an agency of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS).  HCUP provides health care databases for research and policy analysis, as well as tools and products to enhance the capabilities of the data.  HCUP is the largest collection of publicly available, multiyear hospital care (inpatient, ambulatory surgery, and emergency department) data in the United States, with all-payer, encounter-level information beginning in 1988.

HCUP databases and tools enable research on a broad range of health research and policy issues at the national, State, and local market levels, including cost and quality of health services, medical practice patterns, access to health care, and outcomes of treatments.
