As I mentioned on the last call, per the social determinants of health discussion, the New Mexico Department of Health built an online query that allows birth and death outcomes to be categorized by certain SDH (from ACS). Thanks for the link. It seems that the TAMU project lets you pull down a desktop version of their online service - but that it still requires an API call to their back-end reference db. This is very helpful for those without any GIS software but it looks (at first pass) like it's not actually offline. At MA DPH we've always needed to geocode in-house without actually passing any request strings externally. There are several good options out there that run off an internal db of reference datasets. Of course, this requires pulling and loading the db tables which has its own issues.

Thanks for starting this off! Right now I'm thinking that the first content-specific webinar we do will be about offline geocoding options, lessons-learned, etc. This is an area I've spent considerable time (as I'm sure others have too) and is certain to be a useful discussion for many.
