CSTE Spatial Analysis Workgroup

December Webinar

Please join us on Tuesday, December 17th at 1:00pm EDT to hear from Adam Readhead, PhD on "Spatial Distribution of TB in Los Angeles County."

About the presentation:
Information on the spatial distribution of TB disease in Los Angeles County could help local tailor public health action to reduce TB, especially considering that Los Angeles County is more than 4,000 square miles.  Local public health authorities may benefit from data on which areas of the county are most affected, yet these data remain largely unreported in part because of limitations of sparse data.  This webinar will describe the spatial distribution of TB disease in Los Angeles County while addressing challenges arising from sparse data and accounting for known cofactors.

By the end of the webinar, participants will be able to:
  1. Describe the distributions and assumptions underlying infectious disease spatial models
  2. List common methodological challenges of infectious disease spatial models
  3. Discuss possible solutions to these methodologic challenges
About our speaker:
Adam Readhead is a senior epidemiologist with the California Department of Public Health, Tuberculosis Control Branch.  His work focuses on the burden of tuberculosis among non-US-born persons, the costs of tuberculosis and the spatial distribution of the disease in California.  He has worked in public health for 16 years in both international and domestic settings.  He currently serves on the National TB Controllers Association workgroup on LTBI surveillance.  Dr. Readhead received his PhD in epidemiology from UCLA and his master’s degree from Tulane University.
