Good afternoon everyone!
In lieu of a March Webinar, we invite you all to attend an upcoming webinar on Wednesday, March 17, 2021 at 1:00 pm EDT hosted by the CSTE Epi Methods Subcommittee. 
  
During our latest installment of this ongoing webinar, we will host two presentations entitled: 
  • When Life Gives You Lemons: Linking Birth Records to Maternal Hospital Discharge Data Records for Delivery Hospitalizations with Limited Common Identifier – Regina Marino, Minnesota Department of Health. This presentation explores a feasible option for data linkage using limited personal identifiers between birth record data and delivery hospitalizations among Minnesota residents who delivered at a Minnesota hospital (“Minnesota births”).
  • Detecting and Correcting Bias in Mortality Data: Improving Pneumonia and Influenza Surveillance Data Quality – Joshua Quint, Department of Health Hawaii.This presentation will describe how a media report based on public-use mortality data launched an investigation to understand why Hawaii had the highest Pneumonia and Influenza Mortality rate in the country. 

Speaker Information
Regina Marino is an Epidemiologist for the Newborn Screening Program at the Minnesota Department of Health working on newborn hearing and critical congenital heart disease (CCHD) screening surveillance. She graduated from the University of Minnesota with a Master of Public Health (MPH) degree in 2018. Before joining the Newborn Screening Program in February 2020, Regina was a CSTE Applied Epidemiology Fellow at the Minnesota Department of Health working on projects related to severe maternal morbidity and gestational diabetes.
 
Joshua Quint is a cross-cutting Epidemiologist in the Disease Outbreak Control Division of the Hawaii Department of Health where he provides data analysis support for projects including Hepatitis C, Rat Lungworm Disease, and Influenza and Pneumonia Mortality and outbreaks as they occur in the islands. He earned his MPH and Doctorate in Epidemiology from UCLA where he worked as a researcher for the Multi-Center AIDS Cohort Study.
