As mentioned on today's call the next webinar is entitled Monitoring COVID-19 Community Outbreaks using SaTScan scheduled for January 19th, 2021 at 1pm EST.
DESCRIPTION:
This webinar will introduce features newly available in the free SaTScan software to support health departments in detecting and monitoring COVID-19 spatiotemporal clusters. These features include enhanced purely spatial and temporal adjustments; drilldown functionality to assess spatial variability within a cluster; and the ability to specify locations using a network file to accommodate irregular geographies such as islands and peninsulas. We will demonstrate how the New York City Department of Health and Mental Hygiene has used existing and new SaTScan features to detect different types of COVID-19 clusters to support different public health purposes, including identifying epidemiologic linkages, situating mobile testing sites, and targeting community engagement efforts. We will also discuss how clusters are interpreted and presented to officials to support public health action. This webinar will supplement material previously presented on the July 22, 2020 CSTE webinar and in a preprint (https://doi.org/10.1101/2020.07.18.20156901).
SPEAKERS:
Sharon K. Greene, PhD, MPH is the director of the Data Analysis Unit in the Bureau of Communicable Disease of the New York City Department of Health and Mental Hygiene. She oversees spatiotemporal cluster detection for COVID-19 and other reportable diseases. For her team’s work applying SaTScan, she received the 2018 CSTE Presidential Priorities award for advancing the use of informatics to improve health outcomes.
Martin Kulldorff, PhD is a biostatistician in the Division of Pharmacoepidemiology and Pharmacoeconomics at the Brigham and Women’s Hospital. One of his major areas of methodological research is spatial and spatio-temporal disease surveillance, for which he has developed various scan statistics for disease cluster detection and investigation and for the early detection of infectious disease outbreaks.
