Virtual GIS Training for State and Local Health Department Staff (ongoing)

We will be continuing our series of Virtual GIS Trainings offered by CEHI, Rice University. These webinar-based trainings are focused on developing practical mapping, analysis, and GIS skills. Each Virtual GIS Training will be held during the course of 10 days and will be open to 30 participants. State and local health department staff receive priority. Additional trainings will be announced in 2020 on this page and via the GIS Network.

To join the GIS Network, please email Hannah Herold (hherold@chronicdisease.org).

Upcoming Virtual Training: Cartography
Schedule:
•             May 26, 12-1:30pm ET: Interactive Lecture
•             May 28, 12-1:30pm ET: Technical Q&A Session
•             May 29: Assignment Due
•             June 2, 12-1:30pm ET: Group Discussion

In this training, we will discuss map design fundamentals and how to use GIS as a communication tool. The lecture will include a hands-on activity demonstrating typical workflows used when preparing maps for publication. Since this module is focused on refining existing maps, we ask that participants come prepared with a map project of their own. Instead of an assignment, participants will apply the cartographic best practices to their current work.
