The Council of State and Territorial Epidemiologists (CSTE) would like to recognize and thank all frontline public health workers, especially the epidemiologists who comprise CSTE’s membership, during National Public Health Week (NPHW)<https://cste.us6.list-manage.com/track/click?u=a74794e707a0d58b86a809758&id=93d1096e45&e=86e74bc681> 2021, April 5-11. In the last year, the COVID-19 pandemic has changed public health – dramatically altering both our professional and personal lives. CSTE members have worked tirelessly in their states, territories, tribes and localities to fight this deadly pandemic, managing long hours, physical distancing, remote work environments, political turmoil and more. Meanwhile, your important contributions at times go unnoticed, as epidemiologists work behind the scenes to gather and provide the best surveillance and data available, so we can win the fight against COVID-19.
This year, we’d like to celebrate applied epidemiologists who are not only responding to COVID-19, but also working to improve public health on many fronts. Whether it is addressing health disparities that disproportionately affect communities of color, combating the U.S. opioid drug epidemic, identifying strategies to address climate change, or growing our essential public health workforce, there are a myriad of challenges public health currently faces. To rebuild and create a better, more inclusive, more just world through public health, CSTE will continue to address these challenges via collaboration with members and partners at all levels. We must also reinforce the public health infrastructure to protect against future emergencies and support continued investment in public health.
In recognition of NPHW 2021, CSTE would like to highlight the following opportunities for members –
* CSTE Social Media Drawing: Throughout the week, we encourage you to share photos celebrating you or your colleagues, whether it’s in the office, at home or being physically active. Please use #ThankAnEpi and share your photos via social media. At the conclusion of NPHW, CSTE will randomly select a photo submitted with the hashtag to receive a complimentary one-year membership.
