👋 Office Hours Agenda: qualitative analysis and team showcase

Our topic for this month is qualitative analysis. We'll discuss qualitative analysis software, techniques for managing a collaborative qualitative research project and qualitative research's role in data science.

In lieu of breakout rooms, a few teams have agreed to showcase their projects:

Boulder County Public Health
The Boulder County Public Health team will provide and brief overview of their progress on establishing a SQL server and data pipeline to establish an infrastructure to improve COVID-19 data collection, reporting and visualization.

Pima County Health Department
Improve data systems between healthcare, public health, and other relevant emergency response partners in order to arrive at informed real-time data driven decisions for Pima County. The project aims include developing a data science workforce and creating a modern, relational database management system for COVID-19 testing data by providing data requirements to PC ITD that set up an SQL database of testing data.

Boston Public Health Commission
The Homeless Services Bureau at the Boston Public Health Commission issues daily email reports to city agencies and non-profit partners with a pivot table of the shelter utilization in Boston, costing us about 800 hours of staff time per year. The purpose of our project is to automate this daily reporting in a dashboard, so it’s mostly hands-off and those 800 hours can be dedicated to other tasks.

San Mateo County Health Department
We’ll present on how to schedule a task to run an R script that pulls data from ESSENCE via API. We’ll show both the R script (to show how we stored our credentials) and the task scheduler.

Maricopa County Department of Public Health
The team from Maricopa County has successfully produced a test version of their internal surveillance dashboard using a small sample of diseases they will be actively monitoring. Next steps include updating their aberration detection code and establishing a backlog for tracking project requests and updates.
