Data Science Team Training 2021

Where to post Data/Systems job ad?

Greetings DSTT colleagues,
Our team is looking for someone familiar with systems architecture, data science, ETL, and data integration to lead a project (no coding needed, though). Job title of “Data Analyst” produced developer-type applicants, most of whom were not a good fit. We didn’t want to call it “systems architect” because it’s not an IT position; it’s a data science project.
Any recommendations on where to post the recruitment and what keywords to use in the job summary? Thanks.

Hi Svetlana, have you thought about informaticist or data scientist? That being said, we've also been running into challenges hiring for a sort of similar position called "Epidemiologist - Informatics" where we're not actually getting the skills we're looking for so I can't really attest to how effective "informaticist" could be. Our hands are tied with the job classification (epidemiologist) so we included "informatics" in the title to try to clarify the type of role which is a sort of an epi/IT hybrid, but we've not been able to get anyone with strong informatics skills. We might need to go back to the drawing board too. If you're not burdened by the epidemiologist job title like we are, maybe you'll have better luck.

We're looking into promoting the job posting via CSTE, APHA's Health Informatics Information Technology section, and a statewide epi group. Where have you posted the job so far?

If you (or anyone else) has any thoughts to share, I would appreciate it!
Jessica Arrazola, Director of Educational Strategy at CSTE
I have also heard that promoting job openings on twitter with #informaticsjobs #datasciencejobs #epijobs has had some success. CSTE does have a job board for posting these kinds of positions as well: https://jobs.cste.org/

We have had a lot of success recruiting for several types of positions through Indeed, and have been able to reach a diverse workforce across the country. There is a free option, if you post “without budget.”
