eCR/RCKMS Community of Practice

The purpose of the eCR/RCKMS Community of Practice Basecamp is to provide staff from state, local, territorial, and tribal public health agencies with a venue to participate in peer-to-peer discussions pertaining to using RCKMS. This Basecamp is not intended for formal communications about RCKMS or eCR and will not be moderated by CSTE staff. ✨ Influenza & RSV related updates in RCKMS

Ahead of the anticipated respiratory disease season, the RCKMS team is updating the conditions listed below primarily with the addition of timeboxing rules as requested by many jurisdictions:

  1. Influenza-Associated Mortality
  2. Influenza-associated pediatric mortality
  3. Novel Influenza A Virus Infection
  4. Influenza-like Illness (ILI)
  5. Respiratory Syncytial Virus (RSV)-Associated Mortality
Note: Influenza-Associated Hospitalizations will not receive any timeboxing updates since there are no clinical diagnosis/problem criteria
 
Timelines for these updates in RCKMS will be shared soon. In addition to updating the existing conditions, the RCKMS team is considering preparing separate reporting specifications for Influenza & Respiratory Syncytial Virus (RSV). We recognize that the existing conditions may be authored to receive Influenza & RSV reports (not associated with hospitalization or mortality), and would like to hear your thoughts on adding Influenza & RSV as separate conditions in RCKMS (to be authored separately from the existing conditions). We have a few questions for you:
  • Has your jurisdiction considered adding (or have already added) Influenza or RSV (regardless of hospitalization or mortality) to your list of reportable conditions to be reported by providers via eCR (recognizing that very few if any jurisdictions would ask that these be manually reported by providers)?
  • For those jurisdictions that may currently have RSV or Influenza reportable by laboratories via ELR, are you considering making them reportable via eCR as well?

For Massachusetts:
  • Has your jurisdiction considered adding (or have already added) Influenza or RSV (regardless of hospitalization or mortality) to your list of reportable conditions to be reported by providers via eCR (recognizing that very few if any jurisdictions would ask that these be manually reported by providers)?
    • MA currently has Influenza-Associated Pediatric Mortality and Novel A Influenza authored in RCKMS. 
  • For those jurisdictions that may currently have RSV or Influenza reportable by laboratories via ELR, are you considering making them reportable via eCR as well
    • While MA accepts positive laboratory reports for routine Influenza A and B infections via ELR, these reports are used primarily for situational awareness, and additional case data are collected only for Influenza-Associated Pediatric Mortality and Novel Influenza A infections. MA has already authored those conditions in RCKMS and can accept these reports via eCR as appropriate, but currently has no plans to collect electronic case reports on routine cases of influenza. RSV is not currently reportable in MA by laboratories or healthcare providers; therefore we do not anticipate collecting eCR reports for RSV.

For Tennessee: 

1. TN is not considering adding influenza &/or RSV (regardless of hospitalization or mortality) to the 2024 reportable conditions list, for either ELR or eCR. 

Influenza associated pediatric and pregnancy associated deaths is reportable and authored in RCKMS. 
Novel Influenza A is reportable, via ELR and eCR and is authored in RCKMS.
Respiratory Syncytial Virus (RSV)- Associated Mortality authoring is in progress; a ticket has been submitted to add an age criterion to the condition. 

2. TN does not routinely receive influenza or RSV lab reports. The only influenza reporting TN receives is for ILINet.

For Kansas:

1. Currently, Influenza-associated pediatric mortality and Novel Influenza A Virus Infection are reportable via eCR to Kansas.

2. RSV and Influenza are not reportable to Kansas via ELR. We are exploring adding pediatric RSV deaths to eCR if it becomes available in RCKMS.

For Colorado:

Hospitalized Influenza and hospitalized RSV cases are reportable by both providers and ELR.  They are both authored this way for eCR as well.

Pediatric RSV deaths and pediatric flu deaths are reportable by providers.  We have both authored in eCR but would really like RSV associated mortality to have an age criteria added to it.

We will most likely be authoring Novel Influeza A in eCR at some point.

Hi everyone, we are adding a demographic age criterion for “Patient age < 18 years” to the RSV-Associated Mortality RS. The off schedule RCKMS release is planned for tomorrow Friday, 10/6, and RCKMS users will receive email communications & in-tool notifications about Flu & RSV condition updates in RCKMS.
